How Video Games Helped Me Make Better Decisions

Video games are often seen as just a form of entertainment, but for me, they’ve been much more. Growing up, I spent countless hours playing strategy and role-playing games, which surprisingly taught me valuable life skills.

One game that stands out is Age of Empires. It’s a strategy game where every decision—from resource allocation to battle tactics—can determine your success. Playing such games honed my ability to think critically and make quick decisions under pressure. These skills have translated well into my career as a developer. For instance, when debugging a complex issue, I approach it systematically, much like strategizing in a game.

Gaming also taught me teamwork and communication, especially in multiplayer settings. Collaborating with other players to achieve a common goal is not unlike working with a team on a development project. While I’ve moved away from gaming as a primary hobby, the lessons I’ve learned continue to influence my personal and professional life. Stay tuned for more reflections and insights!
